Wind River – A Grand Vacation Lodge Design

November 23, 2022

The Wind River is a grand vacation home design or luxurious year-round residence for those who enjoy blending the outdoors into their daily life. Wrapped in batt and board siding the lodge-style influences continue with stone-based columns with decorative posts and the metal roof. A gable end extends and posts on each side frame the front door. The covered porch wraps around the front and left side of the home creating an expansive outdoor living area.

Inside the entry provides space for a bench and storage, then seamlessly transitions to the large great room. This open style living area provide modest separation of space with a grand fireplace centered between the living and dining rooms. A vaulted ceiling runs through the great room and continues to the expansive covered deck. The double sliding glass door allows the great room completely open up to the outdoors where a fireplace allows the covered deck to feel cozy year round. Entertaining in this informal space is a breeze with the well-appointed kitchen that boasts an island with eating bar and prep sink plus a large walk-in pantry.

Completing the first floor are four bedrooms, all suites with their own private bathrooms. This feature makes the Wind River a great vacation home for larger families. Separating the bedrooms from the living area is a long mud hall with a powder bath, storage, and access to the pass-through laundry room. This arrangement keeps dirty shoes and clothes from making it too far into the house.

With gathering friends and family in mind, the second floor is filled with a large recreation room where games or movies can be enjoyed. Barn doors slide to reveal a bunk room where the kids can have their own space. For homeowners without children the bunk room makes a great craft or hobby space.
